An invitation to tour the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance

facility at North Weald airfield.

The Club has been invited to take part in a tour of the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance facility at North Weald airfield on Saturday 7th November, starting at 10 am. Volunteer Graham Hobbs of North Weald has said we can look at their helicopter, see local aircraft taking off (and hopefully landing), and he will show videos and documentary of the service they provide. North Weald was an important WW2 airfield being founded as an RFC airfield in 1916. Following the war jet fighter squadrons were based at North Weald. The sight of Gloster Meteors and de Havilland Vampire fighters in the Essex skies was commonplace from 1949.

Approximate duration of the tour is 2 hours.

There is an airport cafe on site; The Rosey Ley at The Squadron.

We have just a few places left to make up the 20 people to fill the tour.

If there are a few more members and guests wanting to go, please confirm by sending an email to

David Mee in next few days. He can then contact all who have confirmed that they want to join in the tour so as to arrange car sharing and meet up point, if you wish to go as a convoy.

A ticket to ride

This idea was put forward by one of our members:

taking a ride, as a passenger, in another member's car, by arrangement.

A donation could be made, via the Treasurer, to the Garden House Hospice.

This scheme is now active with two passengers, thus far, enjoying their trips.

Look for the yellow or gold stickers on the windscreens of cars whose owners would welcome a new passenger for a short trip out and about.
